Work permit system review

Trade and Industry Minister David Cretney says he is confident a review of the work permit system will not become a racist debate.

Mr Cretney (pictured) announced the review within days of being appointed to head up the DTI in the new government.

He says the issue was one that was raised by almost every candidate and was a cause for concern among voters in November’s general election.

But he says despite some confusion between immigration and work permits, he’s confident it will not become a racism issue:
