Police praise for Headcams

by isleofman.com 2nd January 2007
Police say the two month trial of miniature head mounted cameras got off to a good start over the Christmas and New Year holiday period.

The Cylon Headcam was used on a number of occasions in the Douglas area and there were encouraging signs that it helped moderate the behaviour of people in potentially volatile situations.

Officers are studying the footage obtained from the camera to assess the potential value of such material and the Headcam will continue to be used on a regular basis until the end of the trial in the middle of next month.

Meanwhile, Braddan commissioners have taken delivery of a Headcam which will be used by the local authority's community warden, also on a trial basis, in due course.

Douglas Corporation is also interested in the technology, but is understood to be waiting for the results of the police trial before making any decisions.
