Road safety targets

by isleofman.com 2nd January 2007
Enforcement and engineering will be the main tools in improving road safety on the Island in 2007.

Inspector Derek Flint from the Roads Policing Unit says he expects 2007 to be another challenging year, especially with the Centenary TT Festival, but a number of new initiatives are in the pipeline.

Stuart Peters reports:

(Text of attached audio)
2006 was a much improved year for road safety on the Island with a 25% drop in fatalities.

A total of 8 people lost their lives on Manx Roads.

However motorcyclists proved particularly vulnerable and they will receive particular attention in the next twelve months.

Inspector Flint has thanked the public for heeding road safety messages and says he was particularly pleased that there were no fatalities in the vulnerable 16-25 year old age group.

However he says his officers will not be resting on their laurels and the battle to improve road safety is far from won.
