by isleofman.com 30th December 2006
Perhaps one of the most famous Steam Packet ships of all time will feature on an ITV documentary programme at the end of this month..

"The Ellan Vannin" will be the subject of an episode of the "Lost at Sea" series to be broadcast on the 30th of January.

The ship became the only Steam Packet vessel to be lost at sea when she foundered after being hit by massive waves whilst en-route to Liverpool on 3rd of December 1909.

The 21 crew and 15 passengers all lost their lives.

The programme will feature contributions from the Manx heritage Foundation's Charles Guard, and Manx Radio's very own Alex Brindley.

The series also examines other famous shipping disasters such as the Lusitania and the Eyemouth (pron: Eye-muth) fishing disaster.
