A nineteen year old man has been jailed by the High Bailiff for a total of three months.

Kalum Peter Raby, of Pulrose Road, appeared for sentence after admitting taking a car without the owner's consent, driving whilst disqualified, driving without insurance, drink driving, failing to stop after an accident and two offences of assaulting police.

The defendant took a friend's car without his permission around 4.40pm on October 21st

He crashed it into a bollard on Cooil Road. The defendant was stopped on New Castletown Road where police saw the vehicle being towed by a Landrover.

Raby was arrested on suspicion of drink driving and he admitted to police that he had not retaken his driving test after a driving ban had expired.

At police headquarters Raby was described as being unco-operative and aggressive and he spat at two police officers.

His alcohol content was 159 milligrammes, the legal limit is 80.

His advocate said Raby was very sorry for spitting at the officers and he wished to apologise but he claimed the handcuffs were tight on his wrists, and he only wanted them to take them off or loosen them.

Raby was banned from driving for five years
