Drinkers beware

Police are warning people not to spoil their New Year celebrations by being arrested after drinking.

A spate of violent incidents fuelled by alcohol have seen officers make 20 arrests since Friday.

Inspector Peter Carling says the overwhelming majority of these have been people involved in drunken fights.

He says people in and around pubs should avoid trouble – or face the prospect of ushering in this New Year in custody:
