Make sure your smoke alarm works this Christmas

We're being reminded of the importance of working smoke alarms this Christmas.

Statistics show the threat of death in a blaze at home increases by over 50 per cent in December.

It's down to the fact people are at home more, and that there lots of fire hazards such as wrapping paper, candles and fairy lights in the house.

But Community Fire Safety Officer, Carl Kinvig, says people often remove batteries from smoke alarms to put in new toys, an action which carries obvious risks:
