Minister to monitor fishing quotas

The Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestries Minister says he'll be keeping a close eye on developments relating to E.U. cod fishing quotas.

This week, it was announced there was to be a reduction in the catch and the number of hours fishermen spent at sea.

Phil Gawne (pictured) says the Isle of Man is mainly concerned with queenie fishing, and already has conservation measures in place.

He says a trip to the north of France, involving representatives from his department and the fishing industry, is planned for the New Year.

They'll look at how fishermen there have maintained their catch despite a reduction in the number of hours at sea:
