Surprise for Minister Earnshaw

The new Tourism and Leisure Minister says being offered the job was a 'welcome surprise'.

Onchan MHK Adrian Earnshaw took up his position a week ago today.

He says he's pleased with the direction tourism is heading in and thinks the focus on events is proving successful.

However, he acknowledges attention is needed in the area of hospitality.

The Castle Mona Hotel closed on Mr Earnshaw's first day, which he says is regrettable and unfortunate:
