by isleofman.com 21st December 2006
A 23 year old man has been jailed by Deemster Doyle for four months for using a forged Manx ?20 note.

Jonathan Myers of David Gray House admitted the offence.

Peter Carle, prosecuting, said on May 23rd the defendant produced a note to a shop assistant who he knew at Mr B's on Prospect Terrace, Douglas.

Myer's was given two English ten pound notes, but the assistant immediately noticed that the ?20 note was a forgery. She told Myers to return the two ten pound notes, but he refused to do so and left the shop.

His advocate said that the defendant had no idea at all how he came into possession of the note. He was suffering severe personal problems at the time, but it was hoped, as reports suggested, that Myers, who needed long term rehabilitation, would be able to receive this.

Deemster Doyle said the defence of uttering forged notes was very serious.
