A twenty two year old man has been jailed by Deemster Doyle for a total of three years.

Gavin Paul Frankel, of Christian Road,Douglas, admitted robbery and assault causing actual bodily harm.

Both offences were committed in Ramsey in the early hours of April 23rd.

Linda Watts, prosecuting, said the defendant and another person attacked a man Timothy Charles McDonald, in Parliament Street.

Mr McDonald was punched and kicked and told to hand over any money he had. Mrs Watts said Mr McDonald only had four or five pounds in coins which he did hand over in the hope they would stop attacking him. However the attack continued, before they leaved the area.

Mr McDonald walked as far as the west quay where he was attacked again and punched and kicked as he lay on the ground. He was examined by a police surgeon who found extensive bruising, swelling and grazes to parts of his body. He described the injuries as being the result of a vicious attack.

Mr McDonald was unable to identify which of the two men was doing the kicking and punching.

Deemster Doyle told Franklin that the sentence had to show that the public were not going to be put at risk by being attacked in the streets of the Isle of Man.
