New superbug threat

The new strain of superbug 'PVL' hasn't yet been seen on the Island, and with proper precautions the situation will stay that way

So says consulatant microbiologist and director of infection control at Nobles Hospital, Dr John Wardle.

The toxin has been making the headlines in the UK after two people died in the West Midlands.

He says whilst PVL has been known in community infections since the 1930's, it has now developed antibiotic resistance and become a hospital problem.

However he says the problem can be tackled with proper cleanliness:
