Captain of the Parish website

'Captain of the Parish' is an ancient office, unique to the Isle of Man.

Its origins go back several centuries - maybe as far back as Viking times.

And although the Captains' role has changed from the days when they oversaw wardens defending the Island from invasion - it remains a significant position in the community.

Now a new website for the Island's Parish Captains has been launched - detailing who they are, what they do, how to contact them - and keeping the community informed.

Administrator of the Manx Heritage Foundation Charles Guard says the Captains perform an important function:
