A seventeen year old man who committed robbery at Farmhill Stores has been jailed for two years by Deemster Doyle.

Karl Dean Glover of Darragh Way, Douglas, admitted he went to the store at 3.30pm on August 28th and had ?420 handed over to him by the terrified shop assistant, Janet Foulkes.

Beth Espey reports:

The court heart that Glover entered the shop with a black hat on his head and a stocking covering his face. He was carrying a knife at waist level, and demanded money. Miss Foulkes gave him some ten and twenty pound notes. She pressed the panic alarm, but Glover leaned over the counter, took the rest of the notes and left.

Miss Foulkes called police. She was described as shocked, shaken and fearful. Glover was arrested and said he had needed money to pay ?300 for a drug debt and he had spent the rest. His advocate said the defendant had admitted the offences and was deeply remorseful and apologetic to Miss Foulkes.

Deemster Doyle said armed robbery would not be tolerated, it was a serious offence and the public had to be protected with deterrent sentences. He accepted that there was no actual violence used, but Miss Foulkes was put in fear and had still not recovered from the incident. He added that the offence was clearly pre-meditated.
