Roadside stops aid safety campaign

An Islandwide campaign to improve road safety over the Christmas and New Year holiday period is progressing well.

Police units have been working in various locations, combining spot-checks to assess the roadworthiness of vehicles with the breathalisation of suspected drink-drivers.

Statistics from the west of the Island show 120 people have been stopped, but of the 30 who had breath tests none was over the drink-drive limit.

Constable Wayne Milne told Stuart Peters there had been a positive response from motorists whose cars had been examined:
