Rodan is the new Speaker

Garff MHK and current Health Minister, Steve Rodan, is the new speaker of the House of Keys.

In a vote this afternoon, Mr Rodan received ten votes, Michael MHk, David Cannan received seven and there were six votes for Rushen MHK, Quintin Gill.

There was one spoilt paper.

Mr Rodan had been proposed by Rushen MHK Phil Gawne and seconded by East Douglas MHK Phil Braidwood.

Mr Rodan thanked the House for the honour of making him Speaker and having confidence in him.

He said he wished to uphold the dignity of the office and payed tribute to former speaker, Tony Brown, for his impartiality and fairness whilst in the role.

Mr Rodan said he hoped to be able to emulate Mr Brown and added that he wished to enhance the office of speaker, especially with regard to international interests of the Isle of Man.
