Attorney General makes personal statement

by isleofman.com 14th December 2006
The Attorney General has voiced a strongly worded criticism of the actions of Tynwald in general and the Ayre MHK and Chairman of the MEA in particular in Tynwald Court this morning.

It followed Eddie Teare's statement to Tynwald this week on alleged irregularites in expenses submitted by the former MEA Chief Executive Mike Proffitt.

John Corlett first referred to a question from the North Douglas member Bill Henderson in October about discussions on the alleged claims between his chambers and the former chief executive of the MEA Mike Proffitt, and whether any police involvement was involved.

Mr Henderson was told there had been discussion about an "on going investigation" and no further comment could be made. The discussions are also on going he said.

Mr Corlett referred to Peter Karrans' question this week on the same subject, then launched into Eddie Teares statement given to Tuesdays Tynwald in no uncertain terms.

He referred to talks between the parties in which the conduct of the AG chambers had been praised. Mr Corlett suggested that civil proceedings might still be forthcoming.

He returned to Mr Proffits' own statement in which Mr Proffitt criticised
"trial by disclosure and inuendo in our House of Parliament".
