Peter Karran gets Tynwald caution

by isleofman.com 14th December 2006
Onchan MHK Peter Karran was warned in Tynwald yesterday (Tuesday) to be careful not to abuse parliamentary privilege, by Treasury Minister Allan Bell.

Mr Karran had submitted a five part question relating to Sefton Group PLC in which he asked for an investigation, by the Financial Supervision Commission, into what he described as, 'apparent breaches of an FSC practice note into unnamed company transactions’.

Although Mr Bell did not accuse him directly of misusing parliamentary privilege, he drew on UK comparisons to suggest Mr Karran needed to use the freedom responsibly.

And he told Mr Karran that if he had specific evidence relating to his questions, he should first provide it to the company itself.
