New era for world's oldest continuous parliament

The age-old tradition of recording votes in the world's oldest continuous parliament comes to an end at next week's sitting of Tynwald.

Out will go the system of members votes being called by name - as a new era of electronic voting is ushered-in.

The traditional calling of "aye or "nay" will continue.

Members will press the button only when a division is called - and votes would have been taken on a name-call.

Manx Radio won the contract to install the new system.

Director of Technology, Daren Leeming, says it's both cutting-edge and discreet - so the look of the Chamber is barely changed (audio file attached):
