The body of a 60 year old woman has been recovered from the foot of cliffs below Marine Drive, south of Douglas.

It was removed by Douglas Coastguard officers at 11.20am today, following a call from a member of the public who made the discovery on the cliffside near the car park at Pigeon Stream.

The vehicle of the dead woman, who has not been named, was found parked nearby.

Police officers, including a dog handler, were also called to the scene.

Marine Drive, between Douglas Head and Port Soderick, was closed for two hours while an investigation took place.

The coroner of inquests has been informed.
