Chief Minister election today

by isleofman.com 6th December 2006
Members of Tynwald will today (Tuesday) vote for who they want to lead the Manx government for the next five years.

Health Minister Steve Rodan, Home Affairs Minister John Shimmin and Michael MHK David Cannan are all vying for the job of Chief Minister.

A secret ballot of Tynwald members will take place but it's far from certain a clear winner will emerge.

If all the members expected to be present attend the sitting the successful candidate will need 16 votes.

If this isn't achieved the person receiving the lowest number of votes will be dropped and Tynwald will vote on the other two.

If there's still no result new nominations will be sought and voting will take place at a future sitting of the court.
