Electoral working group

by isleofman.com 1st December 2006
A working group appointed to consider the size and number of voters in each electoral area is asking for public opinion.

In January, Tynwald rejected an interim report by the Boundary Review Committee, which would have equalised the number of voters in each constituency, transferring some into neighbouring areas.

The committee was sent back to the drawing board, and it's now inviting comments on a variety of topics.

Kate Skinner reports:

(Text of attached audio)
Members of the public are being invited to send their thoughts to the Chief Secretary's office.

It's interested to know whether people think existing boundaries represent community or geographical divisions, and asks them to consider possible changes to them.

It also asks what are the optimum size of constituencies, whether voter numbers should be the sole guide and whether single or multi member constituencies are preferable.

Comments should be made in writing by December the 31st.
