Christmas lights up Douglas tonight

Christmas officially comes to the capital this evening (Thursday).

The festive season gets into full swing in Douglas with the big Christmas lights switch-on at seven o’clock, and colourful street entertainment from 6.25pm.

There’ll also be a snow machine showering the crowds with the longed-for white stuff - and a special appearance by Father Christmas.

With the season of goodwill approaching, there has also been a gesture of goodwill by Douglas Corporation.

It is making its car parks free of charge in the run-up to the festive period.

Chairman of the public works committee, Richie McNicholl, says it’s welcome news for those hoping to shop in the capital:
