A 23 year old man has been jailed by Deemster Doyle for three years.

Simon Andrew Stowell admitted importing drugs and possessing drugs with intent to supply.

His co-defendent, 17 year old Helen Elizabeth McNicholl of Mill Street, Castletown appeared with Stowell and was given a two year prison sentence suspended for two years and coupled with two year supervision order.

Edward Oldham reports:

Rachel Braidwood, prosecuting, said the defendants were arrested at the Sea Terminal at 8.30pm on May 25th as they were getting off the ferry from Liverpool. They were detained for a drug search. None were found on Stowell, but McNicholl before she was searched produced a bag from her person and said it contained cocaine.

Miss Braidwood said it turned out to be a rare amphetamine powder weighing 138 grammes.

She added that it would cost ?10 per gramme on the street.

The court heard that the defendants went to Liverpool, where a man gave Stowell the drugs to bring back to someone on the Island. McNicholl agreed to carry them because Stowell, her boyfriend at the time, had previous convictions and she knew that he would go to prison if he was caught
