Keys members sworn in

by isleofman.com 28th November 2006
The new House of Keys has been sworn in with six new members taking the oath of allegiance to the Crown, and as a Keys member, for the first time.

Liberal Vannin members Peter Karran and Bill Malarkey wore their yellow ties sporting a viking vessel as they took their oaths. Two members opted to take the oath of allegiance in Manx, Phillip Gawne and Quintin Gill - both Rushen members. Mr Gawne displayed his fluency whilst Mr Gill referred to notes.

The oaths were administered by First Deemster Kerruish and Second Deemster Doyle in their red robes under the solemn gaze of the portraits of past Speakers and Presidents.

Equally solemn was the packed gallery of family and friends. The demeanour of the three members who have cast their hats into the chief ministerial ring was intriguing. David Cannan, Steve Rodan and John Shimmin will all be lobbying for votes for the initial foray on December 5th.
