Shoplifters beware!

In the run-up to Christmas, Douglas traders have joined forces with police in a scheme to catch, prosecute and bar thieves from dozens of stores.

'ShopWatch' operates in a similar way to 'PubWatch' - whereby members of the scheme alert one another with details of anyone caught shoplifting, via mobile phone texts.

It could mean thieves are banned from all shops taking part.

Inspector Ken Kneale from the Douglas Neighbourhood Policing Team says the traders have together formed a powerful body:
