Promenade parking in Douglas

by isleofman.com 27th November 2006
Christmas shoppers will be able to park their cars on the Loch Promenade walkway again this year.

As in previous years a one-way system will be in place with an entrance near the War Memorial and an exit at the bottleneck car park.

However for safety reasons the Department has suspended the cycleway on the relevant section of the walkway for the duration of the parking arrangements.

James Davis has the details:

(Text of attached audio)
The Loch Promenade parking will start on Thursday (30th Nov) to co-incide with Douglas Corporation's lighting ceremony and the start of late night shopping. It will continue up to and including Sunday 7th January, subject to weather conditions.

Parking is only allowed on the garden side of the promenade, and is not permitted on the sea side under any circumstances. Drivers are also reminded that large vans and motorhomes are not allowed on the walkway.

Parking will be limited to three hours between ten o'clock in the morning and 9 in the evening with no return within two hours, and parking discs need to be displayed.

Vehicles shouldn't be parked on the walkway if a high tide or stormy weather is forecast, and the 5mph speed limit should be observed at all times.
