Julie Corkill, wife of former Chief Minister Richard Corkill has been ordered to pay ?22,500 (corr) towards the costs of her trial.

In determining a figure, High Bailiff Michael Moyle said he expected to be criticised roundly by all and sundry, regardless of the figure he decided upon.

He told the court that he had to use his discretion and would take all criticism with equanimity.

Earlier prosecutor Stuart Neale argued that Mrs Corkill should pay the entire costs of the trial as she decided to proceed to trial by denying all six charges, but defence advocate Dawn Jones reminded the court that Mrs Corkill had been acquitted of two charges, and that the prosecution should set out specifically what it was claiming.

It's hoped a compensation application for the repayment of one of two grants worth ?47,122 paid by the Department Tourism Leisure will be settled between the parties out of court within next few months.
