Praise for election coverage

by isleofman.com 24th November 2006
Manx Radio's General Election coverage has been praised by the man tasked with educating people about the Island's parliament.

Tynwald Education and Information Officer, Paul Ormond-Smith says people were kept informed and it showed as people cast their votes at polling stations around the Island.

He says he was also impressed by the enthusiasm of 16 and 17 year olds voting for the first time this year.

Mr Ormond-Smith says it was a good day all round: (clip 1)

All 24 candidates will sign an oath of allegiance on Tuesday.

Last night's count resulted in the loss of several heavyweight politicians; former Department of Local Government Minister John Rimington, Hazel Hannan and Captain Andrew Douglas.

The new members are Juan Watterson in Rushen, Tim Crookhall in Peel, Graham Cregeen in Malew and Santon, Geoff Corkish in West Douglas, Bill Malarkey in South Douglas and David Quirk in Onchan.
