Christmas lights in Douglas

by isleofman.com 22nd November 2006
The festive season gets into full swing next week with the much-loved Christmas lights switch-on in Douglas.

As usual large crowds are expected to line the streets outside the Town Hall - to enjoy the dazzling lights display and colourful street entertainment.

Marian Kenny reports:

(Text of attached audio)
The countdown begins from 6.25pm next Thursday - the 30th - at the Corporation's home on Ridgeway Street.

The Mayor of Douglas Betty Quirk has the honour of switching-on the Christmas lights - while the Philatelic Bureau's Dot Tilbury will MC.

There'll be plenty to entertain the crowds - Douglas Town Band will perform, stilt walkers and jugglers will mingle with the public along with cast members from this year's Gaeity Theatre pantomime Robinson Crusoe.

A snow machine will shower the crowds with the longed-for white stuff - and of course there will be a spcial appearance by none other than Father Christmas and his helpers.
