No confidence in health officials

by isleofman.com 17th November 2006
Three senior health officials have been given votes of no confidence at an emergency meeting of the Medical Staff Committee.

They include Health Minister, Steve Rodan, Chief Executive, David Killip, and Director of Health Strategy and Performance, Norman McGregor Edwards.

A media release from the hospital says the vote of no confidence came in the wake of recent decisions not to fund treatments for individual patients, in circumstances where it was considered essential by specialists.

The statement says the withholding of treatment, in this case the drug Macugen might have led to blindness in the short term.

Now, Health Minister Steve Rodan is giving an assurance no patients will lose their eye-sight for want of relatively modest funding:

Steve Rodan is one of two candidates for the seat in Garff in next week's General Election. The other candidate in Nigel Dobson.
