Smoking bans - not a union issue

by isleofman.com 16th November 2006
Smoking bans in the workplace aren’t issues for the Island’s unions, according to TGWU regional organiser Bernard Moffatt. (pictured)

He was reacting to the news a UK local authority has placed a total ban on lighting up during office hours.

Mr Moffatt says smokers do complain sometimes about bans, but the union would sooner ask employers to help their staff kick the habit.

He says the purpose of a union isn’t to help or encourage people to continue smoking.
