An 18 year old man serving an eighteen month prison sentence imposed last week at a court of General Jail has been given a further two months in custody by the high bailiff.

Inspector Helen Mason, prosecuting, said police detained the defendant in Onchan at 11.45pm on December 12th for a drugs search and recovered cocaine with a street value of ?160.

The small piece of cannabis resin was found in the bedroom of the defendant's home.

His advocate said the defendant had used cannabis for some time and this had then led him on to cocaine, which he claimed was freely available on the Island. Beggs-Cairney was now sitting exams in prison and would hope to make a fresh start on his release.

The two month sentence is to run consecutively with the eighteen months he was already serving.
