Petitions for Downing Street?

by isleofman.com 15th November 2006
Have you ever wanted to petition Tony Blair about something? Perhaps full independence for the Island or less tax on cigarettes?

Like it or not, the UK has a lot of influence over the Isle of Man, but as of today you can let the government there know what you think.

A new petition section has been created for the 10 Downing Street website, which lets people collect signatures electronically.

And there’s a special place on the website for those living in Crown Dependencies.

Jason Roberts reports:

(Text of attached audio)
The E-petitions are no different to the traditional paper versions which were delivered by post or hand to the Prime Minister for many years.

Citizens, charities and campaign groups can set up, host and sign petitions about most issues and have them automatically delivered.

No "party political" issues can be included, or petitions containing obscene language or libels – and people can still collect and hand over paper petitions if they wish.

There’s nothing specifically Manx on the website at the moment, but with an election approaching there must be something you’d like to bring to Mr Blair’s attention.

You can set up or sign petitions at www.number10.gov.uk
