A 34 year old woman who stabbed her then partner has been given a 12 month prison sentence suspended for two years by Deemster Doyle.

Helen Molyneux of Tynwald Close, St Johns, appeared at General Jail and admitted a charge of unlawfully wounding her former partner, Kevin Roy Kelly.

The incident occurred at around 6pm on March 9th at their home in Tynwald Close.

The defendant had told Kelly to leave and he packed his bag, but punctured an airbed before leaving. As he went to pick up his bag and get on his bike, he felt a gush of blood and saw the defendant holding a knife.

He had to attend hospital for a wound to his buttock and was kept in overnight.

The defendant told police that he had hit her. She had sought revenge after discovering that he had punctured the airbed. She intended to puncture the tyres on his bike she said, and did not realise she had stabbed him.

Her advocate said the relationship had been volatile, but she had not intended to stab him, as it was a matter of recklessness.

Deemster Doyle told her that what she did was wrong. Whatever the provocation was that was not the action to take.

He also imposed a two year supervision order.
