Jailed for handling stolen goods

by isleofman.com 6th November 2006
A twenty one year old man has been jailed by the deputy high bailiff for a total of 205 days.

Adam Alan Cowin, of Hazel Crescent Pulrose, appeared for sentence.

He admitted attempted theft and handling stolen goods.

The defendant went to Butler's Choice in Strand Street on August 5th, a shop from which he was banned. He was seen upstairs standing by the till and appeared to interfere with it.

He left when staff came upstairs and saw him.

Two pairs of spectacles were found in his flat on August 17th and Cowin told police he had found the spectacles, valued at ?280, in the flat. He knew that marks on them showed they had come from Boots, and claimed he was going to return them, but he had not stolen them.

His advocate said no money was taken from the till at Butler's Choice. Cowin had simply gone there to look for his partner.

He added that Cowin had troubles with drugs and alcohol which he was trying to address during his time in custody.
