Help at hand for young ME sufferers

by isleofman.com 6th November 2006
Representatives from a United Kingdom charity set up to help young people with ME, or Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, visited the Isle of Man today.

This morning they had a meeting with youngsters affected by the condition, and their parents, and further discussions were held this afternoon.

The Island's Chronic Fatigue Clinic was set up in January and the visit was part of the process of building up awareness of ME, and providing more help and assistance for those affected by it.

Twelve people under the age of 18 have been diagnosed with ME since the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Unit was set up four years ago, but there could be more, receiving treatment from their GPs, who aren't known to the service.

Anybody requiring information on the subject should ring the Association of Young People with ME (Myalgic Encephalopathy) on the United Kingdom number 08451 232 389.
