New plantation policy

New plantation policy
Tired of seeing fir trees around the Island? Under a new policy at the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, many small plantations may soon disappear.

They will be replaced by broadleaved woodland and heathland, and 130 acres of small, isolated plantations have been marked for the change.

DAFF says none of the plantations contribute significantly to timber production and show great potential for the conversion.

The programme will take up to 15 years to complete, and consultations will be held before work takes place on each site.
