Road safety advice - for pedestrians

"Be safe, be seen!"

That's the message from the Department of Transport as they urge motorists and pedestrians to take extra care now the nights are drawing in.

The department's Road Safety Manager, Gordon Edwards, says drivers should check their lights are in full working order, and to make sure they're used at the right times.

Mr Edwards says pedestrians, particularly children, should be dressed appropriately, which means wearing reflective clothing in the dark, but also bright or flourescent clothing during the day.

He says the message is the same as every year, but that doesn't make it any less important:
