Author Nigel Kneale dies at 84

The world famous Manx born author Nigel Kneale, the man who invented
'Quatermass and the Pit' has died. He was 84.

The brother of Three Legs sculptor Bryan, Nigel Kneale first rose to prominence when his horror story, written in 1953 was shown on TV and made into films.

His children have also made their mark, with Mathew Kneale writing the critically acclaimed 'English Passengers' with its skilfully drawn Manx characters.

Nigel Kneale's 'The Long Stair' was the story of the Laxey Mining Disaster.
Others plays included 'The Stone Tape' and he wrote episodes of TV dramas Kavanagh QC and Sharpe.

In February 2003, he described to Roy McMillan the Douglas home where the family moved to from England when he was three years old:
