An inquest into the death of a young boy was held by Coroner Michael Moyle this morning.

4 year old Liam John Hall, from Hertfordshire, was killed on Thursday last week after being hit by a mobile crane.

Liam had been on holiday in the Isle of Man with his family at the time

Edward Oldham reports:

A statement from Liam's father, Roy Hall, said the two of them, along with the child's mother and grandmother had crossed the road from the Terminus Tavern to the promenade.

A large wave had come over the wall, causing the family to cover themselves, Liam had been scared by the wave, broke free from his father's grasp and ran into the road.

A mobile crane, driven by Dermot Kavanagh of Ramsey, was heading towards the Summerland site from Douglas.

Mr Kavanagh said Liam ran in front of the crane, giving him no time to stop before hitting Liam.

Mr Moyle said Liam died from multiple injuries sustained in the collision, but placed no blame on Mr Kavanagh or the child's family.

He said it was an unfortunate accident, and one of the most tragic ever on the Isle of Man.
