Child killed on Douglas Promenade

A four year-old boy has been killed following an accident at the top end of Douglas Promenade this afternoon (Thursday).The child, who was visiting the Island from Hertfordshire with his family, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.The collision involved a mobile crane, being driven by a Ramsey man, which was travelling towards Port Jack.The accident happened near the horse tram depot at Strathallan Crescent.Police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact them.Sergeant John Kinrade, from the road policing unit, says officers have made contact with a number of people who were at the scene but anyone else with information which may assist in the inquiry is asked to contact the unit or any police officer.The boy’s identity will be released after all his relatives have been informed.
