Life for Gosling

by isleofman.com 25th October 2006
A Ramsey woman who killed her boyfriend has been sentenced to life imprisonment.

This morning, a court ruled the four and half years sentence imposed on Anne Marie Gosling in April was unduly lenient.

Earlier this year, Gosling admitted the manslaughter of Peter Ormiston at their home in Kings Reach, Ramsey in 2004.

James Davis reports:

(Text of attached audio):

Having heard evidence yesterday from two experienced consultant psychiatrists who said Gosling required more treatment, Deemster Kerruish and Appeal Judge Tattersall said they had reluctantly reached the conclusion that a life sentence was appropriate.

They said such a tariff applied where an offender constituted a danger, or risk to the public for an unpredictable period of time, so no reasonable assessment could be made of when they should be released from custody.

The Attorney General lodged an appeal against the leniency of her sentence in July.

Deemster Kerruish said by imposing a life sentence, those responsible for Gosling’s release would be able to determine when it was beneficial and practical, both for her and appropriate for the public.

Gosling is currently serving her sentence at a secure unit at Low Newton prison in County Durham - and was due for release early next year.
