Gosling decision expected today

by isleofman.com 25th October 2006
Anne Marie Gosling will find out this morning (Weds) whether she’ll spend more time in jail for killing her boyfriend.

Earlier this year, she admitted the manslaughter of Peter Ormiston at their home in Kings Reach, Ramsey and was jailed for four and a half years.

The Attorney General lodged an appeal against the leniency of her sentence which began in July but was adjourned until yesterday when two UK doctors gave evidence about whether she’s a risk to the public.

Jason Roberts reports:

Gosling is currently serving her sentence at a secure unit at Low Newton prison in County Durham - and is due for release early next year because of the time she spent in custody ahead of the guilty plea.

Yesterday saw Low Newton’s psychiatrist Asif Ramzan and forensic psychiatrist Aideen O’Halloran from Broadmoor Hospital tell the court Gosling needed more treatment.

Appearing for the Attorney General, Stuart Neale said there could only be one logical option – to jail Gosling for life, although he added he didn’t want her to stay in jail longer than was needed to treat her condition.

Richard Pratt said the original sentence had been correct under law and he didn’t necessarily feel it was too lenient.

Deemster Kerruish and Appeal Judge Tattersall said they would deliver their judgement this morning.
