Candidate appalled by Pulrose housing

by isleofman.com 23rd October 2006
A candidate in next month’s General Election says he’s appalled by the standard of some homes in his constituency.

Douglas South challenger, Liberal Vannin Party member Bill Malarkey, met the Denton family of Heather Crescent while out canvassing.

Their 10 month old son was admitted to hospital earlier this year with life threatening bronchiolitis and recurring chesty symptoms.

With no definitive date for the Upper Pulrose re-development, and their property without central heating and affected by damp, Mr Malarkey is taken aback by what he saw.

A spokesman for Douglas Corporation says it is waiting for the refurbishment plans to be approved by the Department of Local Government.

It also plans to install central heating in the homes affected in time for winter.
