Clampdown on bangers

Drivers whose cars are not fit for the road - but who take them out anyway - are to face a new clampdown by police and Department of Transport inspectors.

Faulty brakes, bald tyres and missing headlights are just some of the faults the team will be looking for on their inspection patrols.

And those caught with un-roadworthy vehicles on the Island's roads could face hefty fines.

Inspector Derek Flint says motorists who fail to maintain their vehicles need a wake-up call - as statistics show they are more likely to have an accident:
