Water quality improving

by isleofman.com 24th October 2006
It seems you CAN put a price on water quaility.

The IRIS scheme might be costing taxpayers over ?170 million, but recent tests have revealed many of the Island's beaches have met the EU mandatory bathing water levels.

Douglas Bay's three beaches passed for a second year, as did many round the coast to Port St Mary.

Port Soderick and Derbyhaven passed more stringent guidelines and are described as 'excellent'.

Water at 15 bathing sites around the Island are regularly tested for cleanliness by the Government Laboratory.

Meary Veg sewage treatment plant currently receives sewage flow from 67 per cent of the Island's population.
