MHK slams increasing IRIS costs

The latest proposed changes to the IRIS scheme are common sense, but should have been considered from the start, according to West Douglas MHK Dominic Delaney.

IRIS was originally designed to provide a single, Island-wide solution, transferring sewage to one central treatment works in the south.

But an independent review is now recommending a "regional" treatment solution, with separate works for the north and west, which could see project costs double to around ?160 million.

Mr Delaney has hit out at the spiralling costs, but isn't suprised the new proposals have been put forward:
