Police will no longer investigate themselves

Tynwald has voted to stop police investigating complaints about themselves.

It follows a debate yesterday on the findings of a report by a Select Committee on the Petition for Redress of Grievance of Roy Redmayne.

The former inspector with Greater Manchester police was attacked in April 2002 and lodged a complaint about the handling of the matter.

During the debate an amendment called for the Chief Constable, Mike Culverhouse, to take the blame for the failings of the force but the move was defeated.
