by isleofman.com 17th October 2006
A man described as the world's leading scholar of Manx gaelic has died.

The Reverend Robert Thompson who did a huge amount of work to make the study of Manx academically acceptable, came to Manx after studying Scottish gaelic.

Dr Brian Stowell has known him for over fifty years, and says he worked with another Manx scholar, George Broderick on several projects, but one in particular stands out.
